ESWM – the association

Evangelische Studentenwohnheime München e.V.

Since 1958 – Shared student housing with heart, mind, and diversity.

Who is ESWM?

The Evangelische Studentenwohnheime München e.V. (ESWM) was founded in 1958 by the Protestant Church in Bavaria. The goal was to provide students with affordable accommodation and to be able to accompany them spiritually. Today, ESWM works independently, shaped by the Christian view of humanity: Diversity is at the center of our work – regardless of religion, nationality or gender.

  • Non-profit association – supported by the commitment of former residents.
  • Operational management by managing director & house managers.
  • Board as strategic supervisory board.

Our mission statement

The Evangelische Studentenwohnheime München e.V. (ESWM) wants to enable spiritual, intellectual, cultural and athletic living in tolerance and cosmopolitanism in the dormitories it operates, thereby contributing to the personal development of its residents. The association and its management bodies feel committed to Christian ideals as a guideline for their actions.

Our standards

  • Living together with peers in similar life situations makes communication easier for residents.
  • Often a family-like situation develops within the dormitories. The manageable size of the houses with approx. 70 – 140 residents contributes to this.
  • This counteracts loneliness in the big city and mass university.
  • The residents experience a culture of mutual helpfulness and support.
  • To support community life, various groups and individuals in the dorms offer spiritual, cultural, and sports activities, such as movie nights, cooking groups, mountain trips, jogging groups, volleyball games, shared celebrations, and bar or barbecue evenings. The tutor program in particular provides diverse inspiration here.
